Remember when, months ago, the BTS Skytrain announced the B20 flat-fare policy for Thai nationals? Yes, we do and we still felt the joy that wonderful news brought—but it looks like the entire thing is still up in the air.
To be precise, the announcement was made in late July that Thai citizens could register for the B20 single-fare scheme in August. The scheme would allow them to travel via BTS across eight lines and 13 routes (a total of 194 stations) for a single fare of only B20. Fast forward to now, with October just around the corner, and the policy is nowhere to be seen.
Adding salt to the wound, BTS recently canceled the monthly fare package, which had previously lowered the cost per trip to about B34-B40. It could be argued that the cost of traveling via BTS is now at an all-time high.
While BTS eventually brought back the monthly tickets on the Rabbit Rewards app, the price is still higher than it used to be.
With the new government in place, there's still no update on the single-fare scheme, and they recently commented that the implementation would be expensive. For frequent BTS passengers, all that's left is a sigh of frustration.
Let's not lose hope. We will keep you posted when there's more news on this.
