There are so many must-go spots for fantastic eating affairs in Hong Kong, and those who have been to the city know that Cheung Hing Kee is certainly one of them. Good news for Bangkok foodies—this long-standing bun shop is rumored to land in the Thai capital this November!
This Hong Kong institution, which has earned a spot on the Bib Gourmand list of the Michelin Guide in 2016, 2024, and 2025, has long been a favourite among locals and visitors alike for sheng jian bao, or the Shanghai-style soup-filled dumplings. The bao here differs from others thanks to the pan-fried technique that makes the wrapper base golden and crispy, while the overloaded filling bursts hot, umami soup in your mouth upon the first bite.
Apart from the unique bite size and generous fillings, Cheung Hing Kee always keeps its patrons excited with special seasonal versions in addition to the original numbers like pork and prawn. They're also known for their decadent black truffle variety! Fingers crossed that they will launch an exclusive Thai-inspired filling at this branch—that’d be quite awesome!
The location where Cheung Hing Kee will debut its first Bangkok outpost appears to be one of the kiosks in Central Chidlom’s Public Market zone that links to Central Embassy. This means you can pop in for a quick grab-and-go or enjoy a proper meal at one of the dedicated seats in the area. Fresh-from-the-pan is the promise they will keep to serve the scrumptious baos to Bangkokians.
Stay tuned with us here; we will give a full report of Cheung Hing Kee’s first shop in Bangkok once we know more information about the exact opening date!
