We’re not going to deny that commuting by car in Bangkok can be quite nightmarish, especially during rush hour—but things are getting better now with the arrival of a new taxi service that can zip you quickly along the water. Yes, we now have a boat taxi!
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has introduced this new transportation method, and it’s going really well. Managed by Krung Thep Thanakom Co (KT), this electric-powered taxi service is now running on demand via its dedicated mobile app—think of Grab and other ride-hailing services.
Engineered by Thai talents at TTA Mariner Co (TMC), these EV Taxi boats are an effective alternative to road commuting. They offer better convenience for city travel and also help alleviate pollution problems. During the current trial phase, the vessels can accommodate eight passengers per trip, featuring comfortable and spacious seating and high safety standards. Plus, the boats can go as fast as 12 kilometers per hour (with a plan to increase the speed in the next phase).
The available routes currently are:
The fare starts from B60 per trip, with a future plan for a charter service for small groups. You can now book an EV taxi boat daily from 09:00 to 18:00.
