Just in case you missed the good news, Bangkok has just unlocked a long-awaited improvement for the daily commute. Earlier this year, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) began revamping a selection of bus stops with a fresh look and upgraded functionalities designed to benefit both commuters and pedestrians.
The most immediate change is the slimmer, more streamlined physical structures. By reducing the footprint of the stops, the BMA has reclaimed valuable space on the footpaths, making it significantly easier for passersby to navigate narrow or crowded sidewalks.
The real highlight, however, is the addition of state-of-the-art digital screens. Waiting passengers can now check live arrival times directly at the stop, with information updated in real time. To ensure no one ends up on the wrong bus, the screens also allow users to look up the specific routes served by that location. As an added benefit for evening commuters, the stops are fully illuminated after sundown, providing a much-needed sense of safety and visibility.
Currently, five locations have received this upgrade: two stops at The Mall Lifestore Bangkapi (both in front and opposite), two at Bang Kapi Market (both in front and opposite), and the stop opposite Ramkhamhaeng University.
The project is a collaborative effort between the Department of Land Transport, Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), Thai Smile Bus, Bangkok City Lab, ViaBus, and Mayday!. The BMA has committed to completing similar installations at another 500 stops across the city by the end of the year.
