Another day, another frustration regarding Bangkok’s public transportation! The latest bad news for commuters just came out: the B15 flat fee for the BTS Green Line extensions has been officially cancelled. The Skytrain has now implemented a new, distance-based pricing system.
Effective November 1, 2025, passengers using the extended stations will pay more than usual. The flat fee of B15 is replaced by a distance-based fare ranging from B17 to B45 for trips solely within the extensions. For passengers traveling across the entire system (main line plus extensions), the capped maximum fare has also increased from B62 to B65.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) revealed that this change was necessary to address the high costs of operating and maintaining the extensions, which have been running at a massive deficit. The BMA has been subsidizing these costs by over B6 billion annually, while also having recently finalized the settlement of substantial debt owed to the operator. This new structure aims to better reflect the true operational costs and ensure the system’s long-term financial sustainability.
