A tiny, Tachinomi-themed popup bar is now open for a limited time—both in days and serving hours—at Kimpton Maa-Lai Hotel in Langsuan. It’s called AKKIN (a pun on Nikka whisky, which is serving at the bar), and we’re excited about it. First, it’s the secretive location. It’s hidden on a mezzanine right above the popular Bar.Yard. You have to enter through a fire exit and crawl (not literally) until you reach a tiny Japanese-looking bar at the end of the hallway. (You have to take off your shoes before getting inside.) It’s a compact corner without air conditioning that can fit only 10 people max. Due to this, they limit the number of people on the premises, and you can only spend 15 minutes there. (You can hardly stay longer due to the weather conditions.) Drinks serving are highballs and martinis.
The bar aims to mirror a Tachinomi bar experience in Japan, celebrating Nikka whisky. Tachinomi is a no-chair standing bar where salaryman-style patrons usually come, drink, get drunk, and go home in a short period of time.
Akkin is open Thu-Sun, 7pm to midnight, from now until the end of September. Reservations are required. DM @kimptonmaalaibangkok
