Crowned as a "senmon ten" for tonkatsu (a term for a specialty shop in Japanese), the crowd-pleasing Tonkatsu Aoki from Japan has finally landed in Bangkok. What makes this restaurant a true showstopper is the eye-popping size of its breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet, cooked to perfection (to the point that its glistening juiciness is visually apparent!).
The pork here is available in seven different cuts, depending on the texture you prefer. The shoulder cut (B890), Kata, is our favorite; it offers the softest bite with fat seeping into every layer of the meat. For hardcore eaters, try Ribu (B890), the huge-sized loin cutlet that can weigh up to 400 grams, and is a signature serve of Tonkatsu Aoki.
Quality-wise, you can absolutely trust Tonkatsu Aoki. The pork is sourced from a farm with Specific Pathogen-Free certification. The rice is koshihikari, a highly regarded short-grain variety from Niigata known for its sweet taste and chewy texture. The accompanying cabbage is also bottomless, with three different salad dressings available: yuzu, plum, and sesame. A side of Tonjiru soup completes this amazing meal.
